Surgical Services

The Peri-Operative unit is comprised of Short Stay Surgery (SSS) which has eight (8) cubicles and overflow rooms as needed, Surgery which has four (4) operating rooms and Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) which has six (6) monitored areas.

The scope of care of the peri-operative patient includes the Pre-Operative, Intra-Operative and Post-Operative phase of care.  This care is provided by competent individuals in the department and covers the Pediatric (2 years and older) to the Geriatric population.

The scope of care/service in the operating room includes the following types of inpatient and outpatient care: general, thoracic, ophthalmology, vascular, orthopedic, urology, gynecology, obstetrics (done in OB operating room) otolaryngology, and podiatry surgical services and gastroenterology services.

The PACU provides post-anesthesia nursing care services to all groups, pediatric to geriatric, who require surgical intervention.  The PACU is equipped to handle all types of patients requiring post-anesthesia nursing care.  Post-anesthesia care is provided to patients receiving general anesthesia, epidural, caudal, spinal, and other types of regional blocks, I.V. sedation and local anesthesia.

Patients receiving conscious sedation in the other areas of the hospital may be recovered in PACU.

The O.R. provides surgical intervention for urgent and emergency cases 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.  Our scheduled operating room hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Twenty four hour emergency coverage is provided by our on-call team.

The Short Stay Surgery Unit provides pre-operative and post-operative nursing care from Monday through Friday starting at 5:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. or longer if needed.

The Peri-Operative Unit is committed to providing a continuum of care of both inpatients and outpatients in a safe, caring environment that provides the health education, maintenance, diagnosis, and treatment of patients.
