CT Scan (Computer Tomography)

A CT Scan is actually an x-ray procedure enhanced by a computer. This results in a cross-section view (referred to as a “slice”) of a particular part of your body. During a routine x-ray, dense tissues can block other areas. A CT Scan is able to put together various images and clearly show both the bone and the soft tissue.

The CT Scanner is a large doughnut shaped machine with an x-ray table. You will lie on the table and be slowly moved into the large opening as a series of pictures are taken. You may be required to take contrast material either orally or by injection; this allows better visibility of the body structures.
